Romania becomes the 18th Member State to ratify the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court (UPCA) On 31 May 2024, Romania has deposited its instrument of ratification and will accede to the UPCA on 1 September 2024 Romania has deposited its instrument of ratification of the UPCA on 31 May 2024, becoming the 18th Member State to ratify the Agreement. According to Article 89(2) UPCA, the Agreement will enter into force in Romania on 1 September 2024. In a joint statement, Mr Klaus Grabinski, President of the Court of Appeal and Ms Florence Butin, President of the Court of First Instance noted: “We are happy to welcome the news that Romania has deposited its instrument of ratification, becoming the 18th Member State to join the Unitary Patent system, one year after the UPCA entered into force. We look forward to Romania joining the project, as our latest Contracting Member State!”
