Full Bio Stefan Wilhelm has been appointed to the Unified Patent Court in June 2023. His technical focus is mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics and material science and processing. Professional Experience in Intellectual PropertyThroughout his career that started out at Merck KGaA in 1988 and has been continued at 3M since 1994, Stefan has held various positions with increased responsibility in the respective IP organizations. Stefan has supported clients with a broad range of activities including client counselling and education on IP issues and developing and implementing strategies of holistic IP generation, competitive intelligence and IP enforcement, respectively. Stefan also represented multiple oppositions and appeal/nullity cases before the Patent Offices and the Federal Patent Court and provided validity, infringement and clearance (FtP) opinions.Since 2013 Stefan has focused as 3M’s Director of EMEA IP Litigation on devising and implementing IP enforcement strategies for global 3M clients in the (then) scattered IP litigation landscape of Europe. In that role he advised clients on litigation strategies, assembled and led global litigation teams and managed myriads of IP litigation cases across the EMEA area including cross-country/cross-Atlantic cases. The role also included transactional work such as negotiating settlement and license agreements.
