Full Bio Rudi Goedeweeck has been appointed to the Court in June 2023. His main technical focus is in chemistry and photophysics. Professional Experience in Intellectual Property Since 2011, Rudi has been the Director of Agfa’s Corporate IP department, a position from which he retired in May 2023. Rudi's experience as patent attorney covers all aspects of the profession: drafting and prosecuting applications before the EPO and WIPO;leading role in several EP oppositions, including oral proceedings before the Boards of Appeal.patent prosecution through external agents in the principal world economies (USA, Japan, China, India, Korea, Brazil,…);freedom-to-use opinions, competitive benchmarking, portfolio management, development of IP strategy;active participation in negotiations relating to various IP issues such as alleged infringement disputes, technology transfer, contract negotiation and drafting. In addition, since 2008, his attention moved strongly towards patent litigation and during the past 15 years Rudi Goedeweeck has spent most of his time as principal coordinator of Agfa’s offensive and defensive IP actions, working closely together with outside counsel in several jurisdictions such as the United States, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Spain. Some of these cases also involved the appeal stage and one has been finalised in cassation. Professional Experience in Science After his studies, Rudi joined Agfa-Gevaert in Antwerp, Belgium, as R&D project manager in the field of medical diagnostic film Education Rudi Goedeweeck has studied Science (Chemistry) at the University of Leuven, Belgium, where he obtained his PhD in 1987 with a thesis in the field of molecular dynamics, studied by means of fluorescence decay after laser pulse excitation. In 1996, he started his training in patent law and qualified as European Patent Attorney in 2001.
