Court Court of First Instance Judge Full Bio Ronny Thomas has been a judge at the UPC local division Düsseldorf and Member of the Presidium since 1 November 2022. Prior to his appointment, he served as Deputy Chairman of the 2. Civil Senat at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, which is responsible for patent matters and headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Kühnen. Ronny studied law at the University of Leipzig, where he specialized in intellectual property law. During his legal clerkship in the jurisdiction of the Higher Regional Court of Dresden, he has continued to focus on intellectual property law and worked for German and international law firms in Leipzig and Sydney and the German Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce. After graduating in 2006, he joined a renowned international law firm in Düsseldorf as an attorney with a focus on patent litigation. At the beginning of the following year, Ronny has been raised to the Bench and started his career as a judge at the Regional Court of Düsseldorf. Nearly all the time he has been part of the patent division of the court, interrupted by a short period at the Ministry of Justice North Rhine-Westphalia. Ronny participated in several exchange programs of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) taking him to Spain, Poland and Italy. He worked as a freelancer for GRUR, had several speaking engagements and is the author of several publications dealing with patent law. Furthermore, he examined students and legal interns.
