A single patent court for Member States of the European Union
Appointed as a French judge in 2005, Mélanie Bessaud has been a civil judge in intellectual and industrial property matter, dealing with patents, trademarks, industrial design, models, and unfair competition in the first instance Court of Paris for five years. This Court has exclusive jurisdiction in respect of patents cases. She dealt with proceedings for infringement, revocation on different grounds, but also case management, provisional measures or damages and ex-parte proceedings amongst others.
Since 2020, Mélanie Bessaud is a judge-referee in the commercial division of the French supreme Court (Cour de cassation), where she deals with patents and SPCs.
She has been a lecturer in intellectual property.
