Court Court of First Instance Judge Full Bio Matthias Zigann has been the Presiding Judge of the Local Division Munich since June 2023. From November 2022 to May 2024, he held the position of Presiding Judge of the 38th Civil (IP) Senate of the Higher Regional Court Munich. From December 2012 to October 2022, he presided over the 7th (Patent) Division of the Regional Court Munich I. Prior to his appointment as presiding judge, Matthias was seconded to serve as a research associate with the Xth Civil (Patent) Senate of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe for three years. From 2003 to 2009, he served as a regular member of the 7th Division of the Regional Court Munich I. From 1999 to 2003, he served as a public prosecutor in Landshut. Matthias is an alumnus of the Munich Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition, a member of the GRUR Special Committee on Biotechnology Law, the chair of the advisory board of the Munich IP Dispute Resolution Forum, a co-editor and co-author of various commentaries and handbooks on UPC law, patent law and procedural law in IP cases, and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.
